Creative Ritual was born from the curiosity and eagerness to understand how creatives adapted their practises during the Covid-19 pandemic, which saw almost all of its months confined to four walls, under strict new laws and guidelines.
The project strives to help people from all walks of life, understand the energy that creatives manifest to form rituals for themselves, in the form of creative projects, as a grounding and coping mechanism to navigate their way through life. Rituals are an act of resistance as a creative; a refusal to conform and an insistence that, no matter what is thrown at them, they will speak their truth through art. Creativity is the ability to bring new and valuable ideas into being, things that will help improve our everyday lives. In this instance, helping to dig into unfamiliar territory to see opportunity and generate options and solutions that helped us survive the pandemic.
The magazine which was published in May 2020, just two months into the national lockdown, features stories from over 25 international creatives, discussing their new-found survival hobbies and issues that surrounded their existing working practise.
